Impact of Music Therapy Program on the Self-Esteem and Depression of Middle-Aged Women

|
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of a music therapy program on the psychoemotional characteristics of depressed middle-aged women such as self-esteem and depression in an attempt to provide some information on the promotion of middle-aged women¡¯s emotional health. The subjects in this study were the depressed middle-aged women who participated in programs provided by M mental health center located in the city of C, South Gyeongsang Province. A music therapy program was provided for them in 20 sessions, twice a week. The findings of the study were as follows:
First, the music therapy program was found to exert an effective influence on the improvement of the self-esteem of the depressed middle-aged women. Second, the music therapy program was found to exercise an effective influence on the alleviation of the depression of the depressed middle-aged women. Given the findings of the study, the music therapy program could be said as one of effective intervention programs to boost depressed middle-aged women¡¯s self-esteem and relieve their depression.
